WINTER WARMERS AT CORINTHIA HOTEL LONDON

WINTER WARMERS AT CORINTHIA HOTEL LONDON
5-Star Hotel’s Crafty Concierge Highlights London’s Top Cultural Winter Events
In a world of mass produced experiences, London’s 21stgrand hotel, Corinthia Hotel London offers made-to-measure experiences with its “Crafty Concierge” initiative.
Ideally located in the heart of London, only a short walk from most of London’s major tourist
attractions, Corinthia Hotels’ flagship provides a great base to explore this great metropolis. With
“Crafty Concierge”, Corinthia Hotel London hopes to introduce visitors to other aspects of the city,
including this season’s top cultural events:
*Best art exhibition: Inflammatory, satirical and boldly imaginative, Allen Jones’ body of work
is as packed with eroticism as it is edgy. Form 13th
Academy’s retrospective highlights the best of his work, from Pop Art in the 1960s to the
present day. Jones is perhaps most well-known for his steel sculptures, think supermodel
Kate Moss clad in glittering gold ‘armour’, but works with many media, his art representing
the iconography of the city, theatre and advertising. Jones’ art ranges from popular culture,
design, fashion, and film – weird, wonderful and eclectic, go and see and start thinking.
*Best ballet: You’d be mad as a hatter to miss the extraordinary Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,
performed by The Royal Ballet, at the Royal Opera House, from 6th December until 16th January. A full length ballet by the renowned choreographer, Christopher Wheeldon, which premiered to great
acclaim in 2011, and is the chosen Christmas ballet for 2014. Watch in wonder as Alice falls through the rabbit hole, is invited to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, whilst the Queen of Hearts rules over them all. With a lyrical score by Joby Talbot, and the most imaginative sets by Bob Crowley that will make the audience feel like as they are part of Alice’s journey, it’s a must-see show for all the family.
*Best musical: Revived by the Donmar Warehouse’s Artistic Director, Josie Rourke, The City of Angels is one of the highlights of twentieth century musical theatre. The City of Angels is both homage and a witty and glorious celebration of film noir. Starring Samantha Barks as the smouldering leading lady, based on the book by Larry Gelbart, with music by Cy Coleman, and lyrics by Danny Zippel, what’s not to like. Staged in the tiny theatre that is the Donmar Warehouse, a small venue with a huge reputation, the musical runs from 5th December until 7th February.
*Best play: Kristin Scott Thomas stars in this electric production of Electra at The Old Vic, Waterloo, now until 20th December. In a revised edition by Frank McGuiness of the original play by Sophocles, and directed by Ian Rickson, the theatre is charged with fury, power, and revenge. Scott Thomas is at the top of her game playing the heroine Electra, who is bound by grief following the murder of her father Agamemnon, unwilling to forgive and consumed by a desire for revenge, her anger builds. On the return of her brother Orestes, Electra’s fury explodes without mercy, leading to a bloody and terrifying conclusion.
*Best cultural evening: Experience the cultural evening of a lifetime at the Royal Opera house on 25th February with a magical showcase of ballet and opera combined with the unique opportunity to meet the brightest stars of the stage after the performance. A veritable living exhibition of interpretations across different art forms, Life Reimagined is devised by Kasper Holten, Director of Opera, and Kevin O’Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet. A series of artistic highlights will show the extraordinary range of world-class talent and productions of the two companies, featuring internationally acclaimed opera singers including Toby Spence, Bryn Terfel, Eva-Maria Westbroek, and the world-renowned Principal Dancers of The Royal Ballet. Guests set off on a cultural adventure from Corinthia Hotel London’s fabulous central location this season from £378 per nights. For more information on the hotel visit www.corinthia.com/London.
